Freedom Area group cancels meeting set for Thursday

The Freedom Area Citizens' Council has canceled its meeting set for Thursday because scheduled guests cannot attend.

The council will present its 2005 Freedom Area Priorities to the Carroll County commissioners at its January meeting.

Liberty High Drama Club to perform this weekend

The Liberty High School Drama Club will present Class Acts at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the school auditorium at 5855 Bartholow Road, Eldersburg.

Class Acts is a series of skits directed and performed by students.

Tickets are $6 at the door, or $5 in advance from the school.

Lions Club schedules pickup times for fruit sale

The Freedom District Lions Club has announced pickup dates for its annual fruit sale.

Fruit will be available for pickup from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday and from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at the Lions storage building behind the Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department on Route 32 at Freedom Avenue.

Century Class of '06 plans Christmas basket lottery

The Century High School Class of 2006 is holding a "Twelve Days of Christmas Basket Lottery."

Tickets are $5 for 12 chances.

Eldersburg library branch sets book club, story times

Eldersburg library branch, 6400 W. Hemlock Drive, is offering:

Homeschoolers Hour: "Holidays" for ages 7 to 10 at 2:30 p.m. Thursday. Students learn through literature-based stories. Siblings are welcome.

Saturday Read and Play for children to age 3 at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Stories, lap games, tickles, bounces and rhymes, and a playgroup will be featured. Children must be with an adult caregiver.

The Eldersburg Adult Book Club at 2 p.m. Saturday for a holiday party. Participants can take a snack to share and a poem, book or story to present to the group. Presentations should be no longer than 15 minutes.

Family Story Time for all ages (3 and younger with an adult) at 9:45 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Monday on "It's Raining Cats and Dogs."

Liberty High graduate finishes Navy training

Seaman Apprentice Thomas B. Myers recently completed Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, Myers completed academic, military and physical fitness training.

He is the son of Cathie J. and Bruce R. Myers of Sykesville and a 1999 graduate of Liberty High School.
