Cell phone users may be taxed in error

Anne Arundel County cell phone subscribers who live in the 21225 or 21226 ZIP codes may have mistakenly been assessed, or will be assessed, the new Baltimore City cell phone tax because they share the ZIP code with some city residents.

Affected Anne Arundel County communities include Brooklyn Park, Orchard Beach, Stoney Beach, Carvel Beach, Chestnut Hill Cove, Greenland Beach and Clearwater Beach.

Representatives of Sprint, Nextel, Cingular and Verizon have assured me that they will correct any erroneous billing relative to the Baltimore City cell phone tax, and subscribers may contact me at 410-255-4477 with any billing information they would like to have forwarded to the cell phone companies. The companies have already adjusted the bills of a number of subscribers whose cases have been brought to their attention.
