Hilda J. Grabenstein, 92, longtime nurse

Hilda J. Grabenstein, a longtime nurse, died Tuesday at St. Joseph Medical Center in Towson from complications of an embolism. She was 92.

Born in Cumberland, the former Hilda Crass graduated from St. Mary's High School there. After graduating from Baltimore's Mercy School of Nursing in 1934, she went to work as a nurse at Sinai Hospital.

In 1940, she married Francis DeSales Grabenstein. Her career was interrupted by the births of three sons, but she returned to nursing in 1949. She retired from Sinai in 1979.

A funeral Mass was offered Friday.

Mrs. Grabenstein is survived by three sons, John J. Grabenstein of Atlanta, Larry L. Grabenstein of Annapolis and Mark C. Grabenstein of Baltimore; six grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Her husband died in 1989.
