You might think deciding between an artificial tree and a natural one is the hard part. But if you go natural, the decision-making is only just beginning: Do you buy pre-cut or do you want to cut your own? Fir, scotch or pine? And, of course, where do you want to go to buy your tree?

Friendship Trees (6950 Old Solomons Island Road, Friendship): This site offers Douglas and Fraser fir trees, as well as white pine and Norway spruce varieties. Carts are available to transport trees and tots. Wreaths and roping are also for sale.

Hours are 1 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Mondays-Fridays and 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturdays-Sundays. Call 410-741-5712.

Nicholson Tree Farm (Little Road, Bristol-Deale): Owner Oscar Nicholson says that his farm has thousands of trees to choose from this year. His varieties include Scotch and white pines, as well as Fraser, Douglas and Canaan firs. Wreaths, Christmas cacti and poinsettias are also for sale.

Hours are 10 a.m.-dark Mondays-Fridays and 8 a.m.-dark Saturdays-Sundays. Call 301-855-4243.


All Timber Hill Farm (19937 Old York Road, White Hall): A wide variety of trees are offered at this farm, including Douglas and Fraser firs, as well as blue and Norway spruce. Wreaths and roping are for sale, and hamburgers, hotdogs, cookies and drinks are available on the weekends. This site also offers weekend horse and wagon rides, which are free with a purchase of $35 or more.

Hours are 9:30 a.m.-4:45 p.m. Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays and 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturdays-Sundays. Call 410-343-1940.

Feezers Farm (11680 Marriottsville Road, Marriottsville): The owners of this farm serve visitors complimentary hot chocolate and candy canes while they search for a tree. Douglas fir, white pine, and three spruce varieties are available.

Frostee Tree Farm (8926 Cowenton Ave., Perry Hall): Scotch pine, Douglas fir and Norway spruce are just a few varieties available at this Baltimore County location.

Jones' Christmas Tree Plantation (16500 Old York Road, Monkton): Five varieties of Christmas trees can be found at this farm, including Douglas and Canaan firs. This site welcomes picnickers and leashed pets and provides child-friendly entertainment. Pony rides are available, as well as a jungle gym and a kid-sized wooden train.

Martin's Tree Farm (18130 Falls Road, Hampstead): This farm offers white pine and a variety of firs, including Canaan and Fraser. Wreaths are for sale, and wagon rides and snacks are also available. Make sure to take cash, as no credit cards are accepted.

Mount Carmel Tree Farm (2105 Mount Carmel Road, Parkton): Everything from trees and centerpieces to greens and holly can be found at this choose-and-cut farm. Shaking and baling are free, and food and drinks are available on weekends.

Ruhl's Tree Farm (14430 Jarrettsville Pike, Phoenix): This farm offers Douglas firs from 5 feet to 12 feet tall. Free baling is provided, and roping and wreaths are also available.

Stansbury Christmas Tree Farm (3519 Stansbury Mill Road, Jacksonville): A variety of pine, fir and spruce trees are available at this farm. Visitors can cut their own or buy pre-cut trees. Complimentary cider is available at this site, and wreaths and greens are also for sale.

Davidson Christmas Tree Farm (1105 Emory Church Road, Upperco): The Davidson family offers an abundance of fir and spruce trees this year. They also sell wreaths, greens and roping. After you pick out your tree, visit the snack barn and browse the holiday craft selection.

Feldhof Farm (2311 Neudecker Road, Westminster): An abundance of varieties can be found at this Carroll County site, including Douglas and Fraser fir trees, and Austrian and red pines. Baling is $1 per tree. Balled living trees are also for sale, as well as wreaths and greens.

Hirt Tree Farm (917 Arnold Road, Westminster): This farm offers Scotch and white pine, as well as blue spruce and Douglas fir, among others. Wreaths and greens are for sale, as well as balled living trees.
