BOYS

Brady Smith

Loyola, football

Smith, a 6-foot-2, 245-pound senior, led the Dons to a 21-13 Turkey Bowl victory over Calvert Hall at M&T Bank Stadium on Thursday.

Despite spraining his medial collateral ligament in the second quarter, the Connecticut-bound player rushed 16 times for 107 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, he made 11 tackles from free safety, including two crucial third-quarter tackles with the Cardinals threatening inside Loyola's 30-yard line on third-and-one and fourth-and-two.

Loyola (10-1) had its most wins ever in a season thanks to Smith, who rushed 116 times for 682 yards and 13 touchdowns, completed 45 of 82 passes for 530 yards and five scores and caught seven passes for 103 yards. The 2003 Sun All-Metro Defensive Player of the Year also made 82 tackles, intercepted three passes and caused two fumbles.

GIRLS

Kristin Schwab

Friends, field hockey

The Quakers' All-Metro midfielder polished off a stellar career by scoring three goals to lead her team to a 6-1 victory in the Maryland State High School Field Hockey Coaches Association Senior All-Star Game on the University of Maryland's turf field.

On the same field earlier in November, Schwab led the Quakers to the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland B Conference championship by scoring both goals in a 2-1 victory over Park. The senior finished the season with 19 goals and nine assists.

Schwab, who also helped the Quakers win the B Conference lacrosse title last spring, has committed to play both sports at Princeton.
