Eighth-grader is recovering after stabbing outside school

November 19, 2004

An eighth-grade pupil at Hazelwood Elementary-Middle School in Northeast Baltimore was recovering at a hospital today after being stabbed several times yesterday outside the school.

Police said a 14-year-old male suspect was arrested near the scene and faces felony charges.

Edie House, a school spokeswoman, said the suspect was not a Hazelwood student.

Police knew of no motive for the attack and were investigating.

The 14-year-old victim was not identified because he is a juvenile.

He was standing on a field outside the school in the 4500 block of Hazelwood Ave. shortly after 3 p.m. when he was attacked for no apparent reason and stabbed four times in the back and once in a shoulder with a sharp instrument said Officer Troy Harris, a police spokesman.

The victim was taken by a city Fire Department ambulance to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening wounds and was listed last night in good condition, police said.

Anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to call the Northeastern District's criminal investigation division at 410-396-2444.
