The future will be one focus of Cecil County public schools' professional development day, which will be held tomorrow at Cecil Community College and will feature a variety of workshops, many on technology, for more than 800 middle and high school teachers.

The event, sponsored by Comcast and CCC, will feature speaker Ed Barlow, an advocate of understanding the future and the influences that will affect personal, professional and community settings. Other events will try to help educators effectively teach students.

CCC President W. Stephen Pannill said the development day is important for educators.

"First, it dramatically demonstrates our interest in professional development for those already in the teaching profession," Pannill said. "Second, it forcefully shows the extent of partnership between CCC and the public schools."

Those who attend will also have the opportunity to choose from sessions such as: "Helping Students with Mild Disabilities Access the Curriculum," "Digital Photos in the Classroom," "Introduction to Power Point to Enhance Instruction," "Reading the Web," "Research Modules," "Spreadsheets in the Classroom" and "Integrating Cabri into Geometry Instruction."

Superintendent Carl Roberts and Henry Pearl, the vice president and general manager of Comcast of Delmarva, will also speak.
