The McDaniel College department of music will begin its holiday season of concerts this week with three performances.
A piano recital by the students of David Kreider will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Levine Recital Hall. Student performers include Myfanwy Jacob, Jane McIlvain, Heather Kirkwood, Kristen Ion, Neil Bozievich, Sarah Lantz, James Gibbs, Jessica Bradford, Alexandra Hill and Stacy Fitzwater.
Music will include compositions by Haydn, Chopin, Debussy, Mozart, Ginastera and Schubert.
Student chamber music ensembles will perform at 7 p.m. Nov. 15 in Little Baker Chapel. The event features 20 McDaniel students in three groups - the McDaniel College Flute Choir, McDaniel College Flute Quartet and McDaniel College Woodwind Quintet - under the direction of Linda Kirkpatrick, senior lecturer of music.
The students will perform Luigi Zaninelli's Three Children's Dances ; Gary Schocker's Nymphs; and Eugene Bozza's Three Pieces.
The College Band, composed of 50 McDaniel students and 30 community members, will present a variety of music at 7 p.m. Nov. 19 in WMC Alumni Hall main stage.
The program includes pieces from local composers such as Frontier Sketches by Westminster High School teacher Brian Drake and The Passion of the Christ by McDaniel student Joe Begly, plus Pirates of the Caribbean and Of Sailors and Whales.
Two student conductors, Tara Callegary and Jessica Nave, will lead on March 1941 by John Williams and Crown Imperial by William Walton.
All of the concerts are free to the public.
