Baltimore County police identified yesterday the victim and a suspect in Thursday's fatal shooting on a street in Lochearn.

Andre Michael Young, 19, of the 3800 block of Cedar Drive - two blocks from the site of the shooting - was arrested late Thursday and charged with first-degree murder and using a handgun while committing a felony, police said.

He is accused of shooting another 19-year-old, Bernard Stewart III, shortly after 4 p.m. in the 3800 block of Southern Cross Drive, police said.

Stewart lived in the 2000 block of Englewood Ave. in Woodlawn, police said.

Investigators had not established a motive for the killing yesterday. Police said Stewart drove up to a group of men on Southern Cross Drive, got out of his car and began arguing with the men.

According to a statement of charges, witnesses identified Young as the shooter.

Young was arrested about 9 p.m. when he came out of his house and got into his car. With officers following him, he apparently lost control of his car and tried to run, police said. He was arrested after a brief foot chase, police said.

He was being held yesterday at the Baltimore County Detention Center after a court commissioner denied him bail.
