WINE OF THE WEEK

October 27, 2004|By Michael Dresser

2003 Santo Wines Nykteri Santorini ($10). Greek wines are one of the great unexplored frontiers for American consumers, and this dry white wine is well worth trying for its floral delicacy and unusual style. The jasmine-scented aroma will quickly tell you this is not another boring chardonnay. It's light but hardly unsubstantial, with beautifully delineated flavors of oranges, honey, vanilla and herbs. It should be served with light seafood, such as sole, or by itself. This eye-opening wine, a blend of three native Greek varieties, is not just a unique experience, it's an extraordinary value. It's brought in by Dionysos Imports of Lorton, Va. (703-550-2250).
