Bowie State tops Va. Union in OT

Lamar Manigo scored on a 1-yard run in overtime to lift Bowie State past visiting Virginia Union, 19-13, yesterday.

Bowie State (4-5, 3-3 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) broke a three-game losing streak.

Virginia Union (1-8, 1-4) won the overtime coin toss, but stalled on its drive. The Panthers then missed a 40-yard field-goal attempt wide left.

Bowie State opened the scoring with a 16-yard touchdown pass from Jabali Smith to Dwayne Payne for a 7-0 lead with 1:07 left in the first quarter.

Cordell Roane scored on a 1-yard touchdown run with 14:10 left in the fourth to tie the game and eventually force overtime.

Frostburg State 22, Maryville 0: Mike Kitchen carried 35 times for 142 yards and a touchdown, and the host Bobcats (2-5) held the Scots (3-4) to 150 total yards on homecoming at Bobcat Stadium.

Frostburg State ended a five-game skid, and Maryville's three-game winning streak was halted.

The Bobcats held Maryville to 12 first downs.

Kitchen opened the scoring with a 9-yard touchdown run.
