Ward's 2 goals help Curley pay back Calvert Hall, 2-1

Matt Ward scored twice on assists from Shawn Houseknecht to lift sixth-ranked Curley past No. 2 Calvert Hall, 2-1, in boys soccer yesterday.

The visiting Friars' win avenged a 2-1 loss to the Cardinals on Oct. 2.

Phil Blevins scored the Cardinals' goal in the second half.

The Friars improved to 16-5 overall and 11-3 in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference. The Cardinals (15-3-1 overall) finished their conference schedule 12-3-1.


No. 1 Liberty 3, Westminster 0: The Lions (12-0) won their 31st match in a row and captured the Chesapeake Division of the Monocacy Valley Athletic League by sweeping the host Owls (8-4) by scores of 25-16, 25-18 and 25-20.

Stacey Krebs and Meghan McConville combined for 19 kills in the victory.

Fallston 3, No. 15 Bel Air 0: The host Cougars upset the Bobcats in three games, 25-10, 25-16, 25-16.

Jess Foerster led the Cougars with 28 assists.

Girls soccer

No. 4 Spalding 1, Mercy 0: Megan Fitzgerald scored on a pass from Christina Markuski in the final minute of the second overtime to lift the visiting Cavaliers (12-3-2) over the Magic (10-5-2).
