Business center, consulting group to sponsor seminar

The Howard County Economic Development Authority's Business Resource Center and AJE Consulting will sponsor a seminar titled "Certification: Navigating the Maze," from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at the Center for Business & Technology Development, 9250 Bendix Road North, Columbia.

The workshop for small business entrepreneurs will explain what certification means and how to qualify for federal, state, county and city certification programs for disadvantaged-, minority- and woman-owned businesses.

The cost is $50. Registration is required.

The Center for Business and Technology Development, which provides assistance with business management, combines a business resource center; technology incubator; business resource library; a SCORE office offering confidential, free business advice; and a small business development center, international trade center and entrepreneurial funding office.

Transit training focuses on seniors, disabilities

The Howard Transit Travel Training Program will offer a training class for professionals who work with people with disabilities or senior citizens. The training will offer tools for teaching clients how to use the county's transportation system, increasing their independence and integration into the community.

Individuals who would like to learn more about the public transit system also are welcome.

The training will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 9 in the Ellicott Room of the George Howard Building, 3430 Courthouse Drive, Ellicott City.
