Schrader appointed to governor's panel on quality education

State Sen. Sandra B. Schrader, a Howard Republican, has been appointed to serve on the Governor's Commission on Quality Education in Maryland.

Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. signed an executive order last month creating the commission, and Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele was named its chairman.

The commission includes four subcommittees: Teacher/Principal Accountability and Growth; Schools and Community Linkages; Global Best -- Practices in Education; and School Readiness and Early Childhood Programs.

Schrader, who holds a master's in education and is a former public school teacher, will serve on the Teacher/Principal Accountability and Growth subcommittee. She is a member of the Senate Education, Health and Environmental Affairs Committee and the State Planning Committee for Higher Education.

The commission is to issue a report to the governor by Sept. 1.

Howard Bank names Brown to key posts

Paul Brown, a former senior regional banking executive with Allfirst Bank who has nearly 30 years of banking experience, has been named executive vice president, chief lending officer and chief client services officer for Howard Bank. The bank, which is dedicated to serving the needs of businesses and professionals in Howard County, opened in August.

A member of Howard Bank's organizing group, Brown will lead the bank's relationship management activities for commercial and consumer lending, as well as branch, client and financial advisory services.
