John T. Straub, 72, electrical engineer, golfer

John T. Straub, a retired electrical engineer and avid golfer, died of a blood disease Oct. 11 at his Cockeysville home. He was 72.

Born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., he earned an electrical engineering degree from Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y.

After serving in the Air Force as a staff sergeant, he moved to Cockeysville in 1973 and was executive sales manager for Square D Co. in Towson. He retired in 1993.

Mr. Straub was a member of Parkville Post of the American Legion, the Brass Hats golfing group and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

His wife of 47 years, the former Shirley C. O'Brien, died in 2002.

A funeral Mass was offered Friday at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Cockeysville, where he was a member.

Survivors include three daughters, Deborah A. Shike of Lutherville, Kelly L. Kramer of Baltimore and Kathleen S. Bowen of Perry Hall; a brother, Robert Straub of Poughkeepsie; and three grandsons.
