Family will receive friends at Ark Baptist Church, 1263 North Avenue, on Saturday, 10 A.M., followed by Funeral Services at 10:30 A.M. See www.marchfh.com AUGUST KOERBER died at age 93 on October 7, 2004 in Virginia Beach. The son of the late Rev. Jacob and Alma Abraham Koerber, he was born in Preston, MD on July 4, 1911. He graduated from Concordia College in Bronxville, NY and Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, MO. He was ordained and helped establish Calvary Lutheran Church in Silver Spring, MD. While there, he also served as Pastor for Lutheran wounded servicemen at Walter Reed Army Hospital and Bethesda Naval Hospital. In 1946 he began his service to three congregations in North Carolina. In 1955, he was installed as Assistant Chaplain of The Lutheran Mission Society of Maryland. He served at many Baltimore area institutions including prisons, tuberculosis sanitariums, hospitals for children and psychiatric patients, Veterans Administration hospitals, and nursing homes. He served in pastoral positions at Berea and Immanuel Lutheran churches in Baltimore and at Redeemer in Parkton, Maryland. He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Esther Schmidt Koerber; daughters Joanne Owen of Pilesgrove, NJ; Marcia Crowley of Martinsville, NJ; Susan Reardon of Alexandria, VA; Elizabeth Goodman of Waitsfield, VT; and Carol Stein of Virginia Beach, VA; son Timothy Koerber of Cross Plains, WI and eleven grandchildren; sister Margaret Frey of Glen Arm, MD and brother Erwin Koerber of Baltimore, MD; A sister Edna Bowling and a brother Paul predeceased him. A beloved Pastor, husband and parent, a genial host, a fount of scripture and Shakespeare, a life-long baseball fan and a lover of Chesapeake Bay blue crabs, he will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. Services will be held at Hope Lutheran Church Virginia Beach on Sunday, October 10, at 3:00 p.m. and at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Baltimore on Saturday, October 16, at 3:00 p.m. Contributions may be made to Concordia College in Bronxville or Concordia Seminary in St. Louis. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel is handling the arrangements.
