With poised finishing and a strong defensive effort in the first half, host No. 4 Notre Dame Prep (9-2) was able to stay a step ahead of No. 2 Spalding en route to a 4-2 victory in a key Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference game yesterday.

Sophomore forward Cynthia Gamboa scored first in the 17th minute on a fine individual effort from the left side, working the ball inside before sending a shot from 18 yards that found the top of the far post.

Senior Beth Koloup scored a goal in each half, and junior Emily Bock bent home a corner kick just after the Cavaliers (10-2-2) cut the lead to 2-1.
