October 13, 2004

Margaret F. Donet, a retired secretary who formerly worked for the Baltimore Orioles, died of a heart attack Oct. 5 at York Hospital in York, Pa. She was 81 and a resident in recent years of Delta, Pa.

Born Margaret Frances Baker in Sparrows Point, she was a graduate of Sparrows Point High School. She was a telephone operator for Bethlehem Steel at Sparrows Point before becoming an office secretary for the Orioles at Memorial Stadium in the late 1950s.

"She would bring home souvenirs," said her son, Ray C. Donet of Delta, Pa. "She once brought back a bat broken by Gus Triandos."

After leaving the Orioles in the mid-1960s, she became a secretary for Clendenin Brothers metal products on Erdman Avenue. She retired about 20 years ago.

Her husband of 62 years, Alfred Wilmer Donet, a Bethlehem Steel foreman, died last year. They had been longtime residents of Dundalk.

No funeral is planned.

Survivors also include another son, Alfred Thomas Donet of Dundalk; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
