Rare chance to play with Ma

Student cellists who are Maryland residents and in grades 8-12 are invited to audition for a chance to perform with Yo-Yo Ma in the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's gala concert Feb. 5 inaugurating the Music Center at Strathmore in Montgomery County.

Four students will be chosen to join Ma, the BSO cello section and soprano Janice Chandler-Eteme in a performance of Bachianas brasileiras No. 5 by Heitor Villa-Lobos. The same performance will be given Feb. 4 at Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. Applications must be postmarked by Oct. 28. The auditions will be Dec. 3 at Meyerhoff.
