Joseph Snyder, 90, liquor store owner, golfer

Joseph Snyder, former owner of Midway Liquors and an avid golfer, died Thursday of congestive heart failure at Sinai Hospital. He was 90.

Mr. Snyder was born and raised in Baltimore, where he graduated from city public schools. During World War II, he served in the Army Medical Corps.

During the 1950s and early 1960s, he and his brother owned Madison Liquors in East Baltimore. He later was co-owner with his wife of Midway Liquors on Pulaski Highway in Bradshaw, which he sold in the 1970s.

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion Post 130 and Edgemere Moose Lodge 537.

He was a member of the Swan Creek Golf Course and Country Club. Relatives said he golfed there seven days a week until he reached his 80s.

Services were held yesterday.

Mr. Snyder is survived by his wife of 53 years, the former Helen Michaluk; several nieces and a nephew.
