BEL AIR — In Harford County

College chief's spending under investigation

BEL AIR - The state prosecutor's office is investigating Harford Community College President Claudia E. Chiesi's use of her expense account, James I. Cabezas, the agency's chief investigator, said yesterday.

State Sen. Nancy Jacobs, a Harford Republican, said she asked for the investigation this year when, she said, some members of the college's board of trustees were denied records related to Chiesi's spending. "But I doubt that anything will come out of this," she said.

Chiesi, who was named president of the 6,000-student school in 1995 and is scheduled to retire at the end of the year, could not be reached for comment yesterday. Valerie Twanmoh, a trustee at the school, said she "has looked at all the receipts and records, and there is absolutely nothing that is inappropriate. I'm sure when the investigation is completed, they will find that everything was proper."
