KELLY DAVID SHEW, 47, went to rejoice with the Lord, surrounded by family, Monday, October 4, 2004, in Hampton, VA. Born in Seattle, Washington, Kelly was the son of Catherine Elizabeth Choate Shew and the late Arthur Andrews Shew. He was predeceased by his father and mother-in-law Dr. Robert and La Velle Van Houten; two brothers, Greg H. Shew and Jack B. Picrsall, Jr., Kelly as a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Anne Arundel Community College. He enlisted and served his country for over twenty years in the United States Navy, achieving the rank of Warrant Officer. Kelly was a Signal Warfare Officer aboard the U.S.S. Anzio CV68, a veteran of the Persian Gulf War as well as numerous other duty stations since he was dually qualified in submarines and surface ships. Kelly will also be remembered for his poetry writing, the love of baseball, especially the Mariners, his eclectic taste in music, bulldogs, all things weather related, Dr. Pepper and his undying adoration for his "little darlin" a.k.a. Sharon. Most importantly, Kelly loved his Lord and Savior with all of his heart. Survivors include his loving wife, Sharon Lee Van Houten-Shaw of Chesapeake; one brother Tracy L. Shew and wife Bridget of Renton, WA; two brothers-in-law, Joe Van Houten and wife Delia of Germantown, MD and Sheldon Weisgrau and wife Stacey of Lawrence, KS; one sister-in-law Carole Picrsall of Seminole, OK as well as beloved nieces, nephews, family and friends. The celebration of his life will be conducted with full military honors at 3:00 P.M., Thursday, October 7, 2004 at New Life Christian Fellowship at Great Bridge. Pastor Steve Morgan will officiate. The Interment will follow at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. A Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 P.M. at Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, Great Bridge Chapel, Chesapeake.
