Rendon honored by small-business administration

Elizabeth Rendon, president and owner of Columbia-based Lingual Information System Technologies Inc. (LinguaLISTek), received the U.S. Small Business Administration's Minority Small Business Person of the Year Award for Region III, which includes Maryland, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Delaware.

LinguaLISTek was one of 10 minority-owned businesses chosen for the award from a national pool of candidates.

The awards were presented during the National Minority Enterprise Development Week Conference, held Sept. 7 to 10 in Washington.

Attorney Okun named to juvenile justice board

Harvey L. Okun, an attorney with more than 20 years of experience in juvenile and criminal law and family and divorce law, has been named to the Governor's Commission on Juvenile Justice.

He will serve a two-year term, working to determine uses for federal grants to the juvenile justice system in Maryland. The goal of the commission is to develop programs to prevent juvenile delinquency. Okun also practices business and criminal law; as well as personal injury, worker's compensation and motor vehicle law; and estate law.

A member of the Howard County and other bar associations, he is a court-appointed civil mediator in the Baltimore City and Baltimore County Circuit Courts, with offices in Owings Mills, Westminster and Columbia.

New business to focus on public radio advertising

Kevin Donohue has announced the opening of KFD Media, a Howard County-based business offering underwriting, client representation and marketing for companies interested in advertising on public radio.

The company also will consult with public radio stations interested in building their underwriting departments.

Donohue left WYPR in Baltimore in August after 10 years as underwriting sales manager.
