A 3-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy were killed yesterday morning in a two-car collision on Landing Road in Elkridge, according to Howard County police.

Nicholas Paul Thayer, 17, was driving north on Landing Road around 10:45 a.m. when he lost control of the 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix he was driving. The vehicle slid sideways across the center line and struck a 1991 Honda Accord driven by Jose Velasco of Hunt Club Road.

Thayer, of the 6400 block of Michael Elizabeth Way, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three-year-old Natalie Velasco, a front-seat passenger in her father's Accord, died at 11:45 a.m. at St. Agnes HealthCare, police said.

Jose Velasco was listed in serious condition at Maryland Shock Trauma Center yesterday. Thayer's passengers, Matthew Merson and Steven Petticourt, both of Old Washington Boulevard, were listed in critical and serious condition, respectively, at Shock Trauma.

Police said speed and the wet roadway appeared to be the causes of the collision.
