Eight businesses in Elkton report minor flood damage

September 30, 2004|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

Cecil County officials said yesterday that there was a small amount of flood damage to eight businesses along Main Street in Elkton from Tuesday night's storm.

Andrew Johnson, Elkton's deputy town administrator, said the water got waist high at one point, but it was just about gone by yesterday morning.

Johnson said water got into the basements of stores along the south side of Main Street when Big Elk Creek overflowed its banks. There was no flooding on the opposite side of the street. Johnson said no damage assessment has been done.

According to Johnson, this section of Elkton floods just about every time there is a hard rain. "There was nothing unusual this time," he said.

"The water came in fast and left fast," he said.

Harford County reported no flood damage from the storm.
