Loyola junior is upgraded to serious

The condition of Loyola High junior defensive back/running back Van Brooks has been upgraded from critical to serious at Maryland Shock Trauma Center after surgery on Saturday that relieved pressure on his compressed spinal cord.

Brooks suffered fractured vertebrae while making a tackle in a victory Saturday at Georgetown Prep in Rockville.
