MLB: Suspended Giants P Dustin Hermanson for three games and fined him for intentionally throwing at and hitting Astros 2B Jeff Kent in game Thursday. Suspended Red Sox P Pedro Astacio and Yankees P Brad Halsey each for three games and fined them for intentionally throwing at batter in game Sunday.

CUBS: Placed IF Ramon Martinez on 15-day DL, retroactive to Sept. 16, with left groin strain.


CAVALIERS: Signed F-C Scott Williams, who had been with Mavericks, to one-year contract.

TRAIL BLAZERS: Signed C Theo Ratliff to five-year contract extension.


NCAA: Announced that Division I women's basketball Final Four will return to Indianapolis in 2011.
