Why it clicks: Bad experiences with moving companies are on the rise as dishonest companies get more brazen and time-pressed customers rush to find an affordable mover. In 1999, the Better Business Bureau logged 5,097 complaints about moving companies. The number grew to 9,405 last year.

The download: James Balderrema, founder of MovingAdvocateTeam.com in Orlando, Fla., blames a lack of enforcement for the increase in rogue movers, so he created a Web site that lists companies that other consumers or state agencies have logged complaints against. The list is not comprehensive because the information comes voluntarily from other consumers. The site provides tips on hiring a mover, how to ensure that the company is properly licensed and how to complain if you've been cheated.
