CHAMP CAR WORLD SERIES: Announced that it has canceled next month's race in South Korea because of environmental issues.

NASCAR: Fined crew chief Jimmy Fennig $1,000 for fuel cell spacer infraction in Kurt Busch's car in MBNA America 400 on Sept. 18 and crew chief Robby Reiser $1,000 for fuel cell spacer infraction in Matt Kenseth's car in Chevy Rock and Roll 400 on Sept. 10.


BREWERS: Sent IF Matt Erickson outright to Triple-A Indianapolis.

RED SOX: Activated DH Ellis Burks from DL. Placed P Phil Seibel on unconditional release waivers.


BUCKS: Signed free-agent C Jelani McCoy, who had been with Cavaliers.

MICHIGAN STATE: Promoted Doug Wojcik (Navy) to men's basketball associate head coach.

SOUTH CAROLINA: NCAA granted South Carolina WR Tim Frisby eligibility to play football.

WASHINGTON COLLEGE: Announced that it will induct following members into Athletic Hall of Fame on Oct. 2 at Hodson Dining Hall: lacrosse player Tamara Tiehel Stedman '86, basketball and baseball player Roy Charles Henderson '58, tennis player Claudio Gonzalez '87, basketball player Douglas R.
