A man was struck and killed this afternoon by a Maryland Transit Administration bus in the Brooklyn section of South Baltimore, MTA authorities said.

According to early reports, the man stepped out into the street in the 700 block of Patapsco Ave. shortly before 3 p.m, said MTA spokesman Richard Scher. It appears he was leaving the District Courthouse when he darted into the street in an area without a crosswalk. The bus wasn't able to stop in time and hit the man.

The man was taken to Harbor Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, Scher said.

The bus driver was not hurt and will remain on leave for a few days, officials said.
