Post-Ivan flood damage in Port Deposit estimated at $1 million, mayor says

September 23, 2004|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

Flood damage estimates in Port Deposit from the remnants of Hurricane Ivan now total at least $1 million, Mayor Robert Flayhart announced yesterday.

Flayhart said homeowners have filed damage assessment reports with his office totaling about $200,000 for items such as furnaces, water heaters, tools and refrigerators in basements.

The cost of cleaning up mud from a municipal parking lot and from roads would total another $200,000, Flayhart said.

He previously estimated that repairs to the town's water and sewage plants would cost $600,000.

The plants are still operating but are doing so at reduced capacity, Flayhart said.
