Victim, 16, had extensive arrest record, police say

A 16-year-old drug dealer with an extensive juvenile arrest record was shot and killed inside his West Baltimore home yesterday morning, police said.

Anthony Antwan Wilkes of the 2100 block of W. Fayette St. was shot about 7 a.m. in the head, neck, lip and hand, police said. His death came a day after police officials released a study that they said showed city juveniles were being churned out of the state juvenile justice system with little consequence.

Wilkes' juvenile arrest record is confidential, but a city official said yesterday it is extensive.

Police said Wilkes was dealing drugs through a slit in a window screen at his house. The shooter put the gun through that slit.

Wilkes was taken to Bon Secours Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:35 a.m., police said.

Anyone with information about the killing is urged to call detectives at 410-396-2100.
