Mary Ellen Virginia Kinney, 74, home economics teacher

Mary Ellen Virginia Kinney, a retired Baltimore junior high school home economics teacher, died of complications from a stroke Sunday at HCR Manor Care in Towson. The Lochearn resident was 74.

Born in Handley, W.Va., she earned a bachelor's degree in home economics from what is now West Virginia State University.

Miss Kinney moved to Baltimore in the early 1960s and taught at Clifton Park and Pimlico junior highs and at Eastern High School before retiring in 1983.

She was a volunteer at the Forest Park Senior Center and attended the Prime Agers Bible Study Group at Calvary Baptist Church.

Miss Kinney prepared and hosted family dinners and often wrote notes and birthday cards to her friends. She raised vegetables in her garden, traveled and fished.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Wayland Baptist Church, 3200 Garrison Blvd., where she was a member.

Survivors include a sister, Marie K. Fortune of Baltimore, and nieces and nephews.
