A man was pronounced dead around 2 a.m. today after being struck by a CSX freight train in Carroll County, according to Maryland State Police.
The victim was identified as 42-year-old Jeffrey Alan Andrews of Hampstead.
Police said the train was traveling eastbound in Hampstead near Shiloh Avenue when the engineer noticed a body lying across the tracks. He attempted to warn Andrews by sounding a whistle and then tried to apply the brakes, but couldn't stop the train in time, according to police.
