Hampstead man dies after being hit by train

Victim, 42, was lying on tracks, ignored warning, engineer tells police

A man was pronounced dead around 2 a.m. today after being struck by a CSX freight train in Carroll County, according to Maryland State Police.

The victim was identified as 42-year-old Jeffrey Alan Andrews of Hampstead.

Police said the train was traveling eastbound in Hampstead near Shiloh Avenue when the engineer noticed a body lying across the tracks. He attempted to warn Andrews by sounding a whistle and then tried to apply the brakes, but couldn't stop the train in time, according to police.

Andrews was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said an autopsy would be performed
