Pair of accidents forces closure of Interstate 95

September 18, 2004|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

Successive accidents last night involving three tractor-trailer rigs and numerous other vehicles shut down the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 near the Baltimore Beltway near White Marsh, state police reported.

Police at the Kennedy Highway barracks closed the southbound lanes shortly before 9 p.m. after the separate crashes, which took place several minutes apart. Police said the second collision occurred as motorists tried to avoid the first crash site.

Injuries were reported as minor. One person was taken by ambulance to Franklin Square Hospital Center, police said.

After the crash, drivers traveling south on I-95 were forced to leave the road at the White Marsh exit and take alternative routes. State police reopened the southbound lanes at 11:34 p.m.
