Richard Alan Gillespie, 64, founded title company

Richard Alan Gillespie, founder of an Anne Arundel County title company and former trustee of Anne Arundel Community College, died of cancer Friday at his Severna Park home. He was 64.

Mr. Gillespie was born in El Centro, Calif., and raised in Tucson, Ariz. He earned his bachelor's degree in 1960 from the University of Arizona and a law degree in 1964 from the University of Baltimore Law School.

In 1978, Mr. Gillespie established and served as president of Chesapeake Land Title Co. in Severna Park. He closed the business after suffering a stroke in 1989.

He was a former director of the Maryland Mortgage Bankers Association, and board member of the old Maryland National Bank and the Central Branch of the YMCA in Baltimore. He served as an Anne Arundel Community College trustee for 18 years.

He also was a former board member of Chartwell Country Club, 1 Chartwell Drive, Severna Park, where a memorial gathering will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow.

Mr. Gillespie is survived by his wife of 43 years, the former Ann Meding; two sons, Kevin A. Gillespie of Severna Park and Scott A. Gillespie of Millersville; two brothers, Russell B. Gillespie of Tucson and Douglas Gillespie of Castaic, Calif.; two sisters, Lynda Sterns of Descanso, Calif., and Kathy Siegger of Clovis, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
