EXTRA POINTS

GOING LONG

Rich Gannon's pump fake helped spring Doug Gabriel (58 yards) and Alvis Whitted (38) for long TD passes in a losing cause. After playing in the short passing game of the West Coast offense, Gannon showed he has enough arm strength to go vertical.

HELD IN CHECK

The Seahawks' much-maligned defense held up in the Superdome, limiting Saints RB Deuce McAllister to 57 yards on 16 carries.

TOOTHLESS

Cincinnati's run defense is still atrocious. The Bengals were shredded for 196 yards by the Jets' 31-year-old Curtis Martin.

HALF A CHANCE

Miami coach Dave Wannstedt gave starting QB Jay Fiedler only a half on Saturday against Tennessee, then went to A.J. Feeley.

ON THE RUN

RBs Emmitt Smith (87 rushing yards) of the Cardinals and Marshall Faulk (128) of the Rams both showed they have something left.

BUCS OFFENSE STOPS HERE

The Buccaneers' offense was awful in the team's loss in Washington. RB Charlie Garner looked like he isn't recovered from offseason knee surgery, and QB Brad Johnson didn't unload the ball quickly enough. Tampa Bay's only touchdown was off a gift turnover from the Redskins.
