On Tuesday, September 7, 2004, GRACE POE BRAWNER, 96, of Ocean Ridge, FL. She was the wife of the late H. Peirce Brawner, of Ocean Ridge, who died in 1981. Mrs. Brawner was born February 7, 1908, in Baltimore, MD and lived in Ruxton, MD, Gibson Island, MD, Raleigh, NC, Charleston, WV, Wellesley Hills, MA and Cleveland, OH before moving to Florida in 1958. She was a descendant of Robert Morris and Phillip Livingston, signers of the Declaration of Independence, and George Poe, who served as an officer in the Revolution and was with General Washington at Valley Forge. She is related to Chief Justice of the United States John Marshall and to the poet Edgar Allan Poe. Grace was an early environmentalist and loved nature and gardening. She was licensed by the State of Florida to protect sea turtle nests and was past President of the Ocean Ridge Garden Club. She was past President of the Junior League and of the Children's Theatre of Charleston, WV. She was a member of The Ocean Club, the Descendants of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence and of the National Society Magna Charta. She is survived by three children, H. Peirce Brawner, Jr. (Ann), of Warwick, RI, Elisabeth B. Bingham, of Ocean Ridge, FL and Philip L. P. Brawner (Suzanne), of Miami, FL; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services will be at 11 A.M. on Monday, September 13, at the Boynton Mausoleum. The family requests contributions to the American Lung Association of Southeast Florida or the Palm Beach County Chapter American Red Cross in lieu of flowers.
