SUNY-Brockport (1-0) at Salisbury (1-0)

Site: Sea Gull Stadium, Salisbury

Time: 1 p.m.

Radio: WICO (1320 AM)

Series: Salisbury leads 1-0

Last week: Salisbury defeated Catholic, 31-14; Brockport defeated Cortland State, 42-26.

Outlook: The Sea Gulls will find just how they stack up against Atlantic Central Football Conference newcomer and preseason favorite Brockport, which has been to four straight NCAA tournaments. It's quite a home opener for Salisbury, which has been picked to finish second in the league.

Johns Hopkins (1-0) at Kean (1-0)

Site: Alumni Stadium, Union, N.J.

Time: 1 p.m.

Series: First meeting

Last week: Hopkins defeated Rochester, 34-17; Kean defeated Newport News Apprentice, 17-14, in OT.

Outlook: After steamrolling Rochester beneath 252 yards rushing and 423 yards total offense, the Blue Jays take on a Kean squad that was able to gain only 25 yards rushing last week against a team that was 1-8 last season.

McDaniel (1-0) at Christopher Newport (0-1)

Site: POMOCO Stadium, Newport News, Va.

Time: 1 p.m.

Radio: WTTR (1470 AM)

Series: Newport leads 1-0

Last week: McDaniel defeated Bridgewater, 14-11; Newport lost to Rowan, 33-32.

Outlook: This is a much different Green Terror team than the punchless squad that lost a 7-6 decision to Newport in Westminster last season. Sophomore QB Brad Baer continues to make all kind of key plays running and passing, and owns a victory over nationally ranked Bridgewater.

Virginia State (2-0) at Bowie State (1-1)

Site: Bulldog Stadium, Bowie

Time: 1 p.m.

Series: Virginia State leads 13-4

Last week: Bowie lost to Morgan State, 41-35; Virginia State defeated Norfolk State, 17-7.

Outlook: After flirting with an upset victory over Morgan last week, Bowie turns its attention to the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, meeting Virginia State, which turned back Bowie, 27-14, in last season's final game. Bowie should find out a lot more about QB Jabali Smith this week.

Newport News Apprentice (0-1) at Frostburg State (0-0)

Site: Bobcat Stadium, Frostburg

Time: 1 p.m.

Series: Frostburg leads 8-3-1

Last week: Frostburg was idle; Apprentice lost to Kean, 17-14, in OT.

Outlook: The Bobcats were chosen by league coaches in a preseason poll to finish third in the Atlantic Central Football Conference, while Salisbury, a team Frostburg has beaten the past two years, is picked second. Apprentice was chosen to finish last.

Gardner-Webb (0-1) at Morgan State (1-0)

Site: Hughes Stadium

Time: 6 p.m.

Radio: WEAA (88.9 FM)

Series: Gardner-Webb leads 1-0

Last week: Morgan defeated Bowie State, 41-35; Gardner-Webb lost to Tennessee Tech, 32-26.

Outlook: Two freshman cornerbacks, Herman Hayes and Dakota Bracey, are being inserted into the starting lineup for tonight's game, as Morgan coach Donald Hill-Eley tries to shore up a secondary that got burned for a rare 242-yard passing show by Bowie State's Jabali Smith last week. Gardner-Webb safety Mario Williams was nearly the entire show for the Bulldogs last week, making a game-high 15 tackles and scoring on a 65-yard interception return and a fumble recovery in the end zone.

Towson (1-0) at Delaware (0-1)

Site: Tubby Raymond Field at Delaware Stadium, Newark, Del.

Time: 7 p.m.

Radio: WTMD (89.7 FM)

Series: Delaware leads 1-0

Last week: Towson defeated Elon, 34-13; Delaware lost to New Hampshire, 24-21.

Outlook: Towson makes its football debut in the Atlantic 10 tonight against the defending national Division I-AA champion Blue Hens. Some of the edge has been taken off this game by Delaware's shocking loss to New Hampshire nine days ago. But the winner emerges all alone in first place in the A-10 because this is the first league game of the season and the only one this weekend. - Bill Free
