A Dundalk man was charged yesterday in the fatal beating of a woman whose body was found Tuesday in Severn, Baltimore County police said.

Jerry Lee Blankenship, 23, was being held without bail last night at the Baltimore County Detention Center, charged with first-degree murder, police said.

Anne Arundel County police said they received a report about 11 a.m. Tuesday of a body wrapped in a white sheet in the woods in the 600 block of Sandy Hill Road. The woman was identified through fingerprints as June Ellen Angel, 35, of the 2000 block of Bear Ridge Road in Dundalk, police said.

When Anne Arundel police notified Baltimore County police about the body, they learned that a man living at Angel's apartment - Blankenship - had reported her missing that afternoon, authorities said.

Detectives from both departments interviewed Blankenship. They arrested him based on his comments and evidence found at the scene, police said. According to charging documents, Blankenship told police that he struck Angel in the head with a baseball bat and dumped her body in Severn.

Blankenship is scheduled for a bail review hearing this morning in Baltimore County District Court.

Court records show Blankenship received probation before judgment on a second-degree assault charge in August 2002 in Anne Arundel County and was ordered to have no unlawful contact with Angel and to participate in anger management. Court records show his probation ended in August last year.
