Joan C. Wolfe, 74, homemaker, clerk

Joan C. Wolfe, a homemaker and retired clerk, died of organ failure Friday at St. Joseph Medical Center. The longtime Darlington resident was 74.

She was born and raised Violet Naomi Caldwell in Marion, Va., and later legally changed her name to Joan.

In 1949, she moved to Harford County when she married Otho C. Wolfe. The couple later divorced.

After raising her children, Mrs. Wolfe went to work in 1980 as a clerk at the News Center in Bel Air, from which she retired in 1990.

She was an avid gardener and enjoyed crocheting.

Mrs. Wolfe was a member for many years of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Bel Air, where services will be held at 11 a.m. today.

Survivors include two sons, Carlton Blair Wolfe of Darlington and Douglas Bryant Wolfe of Phoenix, Baltimore County; a daughter, Wanda Kay Kuss of Havre de Grace; a brother, John Edward Caldwell Jr. of Atkins, Va.; a half-brother, Thomas Dunn Caldwell of Mount Dora, Fla; two half-sisters, Beatrice Dante of Churchville and Frances Wiggins of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and five grandchildren.
