Sandra C. Carpenter, 51, state social worker

Sandra C. Carpenter, a social worker with the state Department of Social Services, died of lymphoma Monday at her Perry Hall home. She was 51.

She was born Sandra Carol Smith in Johnstown, Pa., and moved with her family to Sparrows Point. She was a 1971 graduate of Patapsco High School and earned her bachelor's degree in social work in 1975 from Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, N.Y.

Since 1977, Mrs. Carpenter had been a child protective social worker.

She enjoyed entertaining and working in her flower gardens.

Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday at the Schimunek Funeral Home, 9705 Belair Road, Perry Hall.

Mrs. Carpenter is survived by her husband of 21 years, Kevin H. Carpenter, a production planner with Spectrum FSY Microwave in Columbia; a son, Douglas D. Carpenter of Perry Hall; two brothers, George E. Smith of Brooklyn Park and David J. Smith of Essex; and a sister, Debra J. Fillmore of Joppatowne.
