MARDI FIOCCO, 70 of Westminster died of a chronic heart condition on Sunday September 5, 2004 at her home. Born March 15, 1934 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Joseph Norton and Ellen Hughes Norton. She was the wife of Dr. Vincent J. Fiocco, Jr. M.D. her husband of 47 years. Mardi attended the Institute of Notre Dame and Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. She worked for several years in Pediatrics at The University of Maryland Hospital where she was instrumental in starting the Premature Nursery. After her marriage she worked at several hospitals in New York City. A voracious reader, Mardi was an expert on antiques and had a love of elephants, worked with the Indian elephants at the Honolulu Zoo. She assisted in production at MPT and studied forensic science with the late Dr. Russell Fisher at the Medical Examiner's office in Baltimore. Surviving besides her husband are five children; Vincent J. Fiocco, III and wife Sarah of Westminster, Michael Fiocco and wife Faith of Ellicott City, Kate Fisher and husband Wayne of Sykesville, Peter Fiocco of Baltimore and Ann Fiocco of Baltimore, sister; Ellen Cullen and husband Robert of Timonium, brother Jim Norton and wife Eileen of Baltimore. Also survived by nine grandchildren. Memorial services will be announced on Wednesday. The family will receive friends at the Fletcher Funeral Home, 254 E. Main St., Westminster on Wednesday September 8, 2004 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Library of the Institute of Notre Dame, 901 Aisquith Street, Baltimore, MD. 21202-5499.
