September 05, 2004

BILL SALLER was born on March 19, 1935, in Germantown, Pennsylvania. He left our world on August 27, 2004. He is survived by his wife Karola; a daughter Barbara Vaughn; two sons Bill and Mark; and 10 grandchildren. Bill graduated high school in Miami, Florida and enlisted in the Air Force. He was stationed in Germany where he met his wife Karola and they were married on August 2, 1956. After the Air Force, Bill worked for Bendix Field Engineering in satellite communications and took his family to Morocco, Ethiopia, Germany and Maryland. He was also a civilian technical representative for Bendix in Viet Nam during the war and traveled around the world twice on assignments. Bill retired from Bendix as Director of Operations, started his own consulting firm and moved to Tucson. His contracts included state of the art communications systems for NASA and the Space Shuttle program. Bill was active in his local community and was primarily responsible for the establishment of the Tucson Mountain Park north of his home. He persuaded the county supervisors to obtain the land for the park in exchange the properties that were later re-purchased by the county and made into Tucson Electric Park for spring training baseball. In honor for his efforts, the people of his community named a wash in his honor "Saller Wash." Bill was also treasurer of the Mountain Avenue Church of Christ and later was treasurer and member of the Board of Directors of the Mission Valley Church of Christ. His financial expertise was a part of our paying off the building bonds three years early. Bill and Karola were also members of the Southern Arizona Hiking Club and were the first couple to hike all 315 peaks on the club list together. Bill was loved and will be greatly missed by all. Services were held Monday, August 30, 2004, EVERGREEN MORTUARY, Tucson, AZ. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery, Tucson, AZ. Memorial contributions may be made to New Mexico Christian Children's Home.
