Sewage spill prompts advisory against contact with lake water

September 05, 2004

Anne Arundel County officials have advised residents to avoid direct water contact in Lake Waterford in Pasadena after a sewage spill Friday night.

The sewage overflow occurred at a privately owned pumping station at Pasadena Crossroads Shopping Center at Ritchie Highway and Jumpers Hole Road.

Anyone who comes in contact with lake water should wash well with soap and warm water immediately, officials advised. Clothing should also be washed. It is generally OK to eat fish from a lake where an advisory has been issued, as long as the fish are handled properly (kept in a cool place, then cooked thoroughly).
