Alverda White Wotthlie, 89, registered nurse

Alverda White Wotthlie, a retired registered nurse, died in her sleep Wednesday at her Catonsville Manor home. She was 89.

Born Alverda White in Laytonsville, she attended Montgomery County public schools and was a 1936 graduate of the Union Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.

Mrs. Wotthlie was a registered nurse for more than 40 years. During her career she worked at Kernan and Sinai hospitals and also did special-duty nursing at private homes. She retired in 1976.

She was a member of St. William of York Roman Catholic Church.

Family members said she liked being around babies. She also read and knitted.

Plans for a memorial Mass were incomplete.

She is survived by a son, Richard W. Wotthlie Jr. of Mount Airy; three daughters, Margaret W. Curtis of Reisterstown, Mary Estelle Murray of Vancouver, Wash., and Judith W. Petkavitch of Baltimore; a brother, Richard T. White of Mount Airy; two sisters, Mary W. Hines of Gaithersburg and Anne W. King of Thurmont; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Her husband of 34 years, Richard W. Wotthlie, died in 1971.
