The Baltimore Ravens today placed linebacker Peter Boulware on the Physically Unable to Perform list, meaning he will miss at least the first five games of the season.

Boulware, 29, a four-time Pro Bowl outside linebacker, has not practiced since undergoing surgery on his right knee this offseason.

He will not be able to practice with the team until week six.

The team also announced a number of players who have been waived, including three former draft picks. Returner Lamont Brightful, receiver Ron Johnson and receiver-turned-cornerback Javin Hunter, all picks in the 2002 draft, were waived along with tackle Eric Dumas, tight end Nick Eller, cornerback Rashad Holman, linebacker Brandon Rager and safety Dave Revill.

Brightful has struggled catching the ball on returns and was made expendable by the emergence of rookie B.J. Sams. Johnson lost the competition for playing time among a group of receivers, and Hunter's tenure with the team was marred by injuries
