September 04, 2004

Jeffrey Scott Branick, a Carroll County painting contractor and avid fisherman, died of undetermined causes Wednesday at his Eldersburg home. He was 49.

Mr. Branick's death is under investigation by the state medical examiner's office, family members said.

Mr. Branick, who was born in Baltimore and raised in Eldersburg and Sykesville, was a 1973 graduate of South Carroll High School. He attended George Washington University in Washington before going into the painting business.

He established the Owings Mills-based J & S Painting in 1977, and had not retired at his death.

"His hobby was fishing, and he loved both fresh and saltwater," said a sister, Cheryl L. Niemann of Eldersburg.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Haight Funeral Home and Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville.

In addition to his sister, Mr. Branick is survived by his mother, Carole Jane Branick of Eldersburg; a brother, Kurt A. Branick of Eldersburg; another sister, Karen A. Martinez of Palm City, Fla.; a nephew; and four nieces.
