Man impersonating police officer pulls over county woman

September 03, 2004

A man impersonating a police officer pulled over a woman early Wednesday, Anne Arundel County police said yesterday.

The Glen Burnie woman was driving on Veterans Highway about 3:20 a.m. when a white car - possibly a Ford Taurus or a Dodge Intrepid - appeared behind her and displayed a flashing blue light, said police spokesman Lt. Joseph E. Jordan.

She pulled her car onto the shoulder, followed by the man driving the white car. He then got out of his car and approached her vehicle, Jordan said. The man told the woman that she had to get into his car so that he could ask her some questions, but he was not in uniform, so the woman asked to see the man's police badge, Jordan said.

When he refused to produce identification, the woman drove away and pulled into the parking lot of a nearby convenience store, where she reported the incident to a county officer, who was stopped there, Jordan said.
