A correctional officer at the Baltimore County Detention Center has been charged with having sexual contact with a female inmate, county police said yesterday.

Emmanuel Deris, 35, of the 900 block of Ashbridge Drive in Essex was arrested Friday and charged with a second-degree sex offense, a fourth-degree sex offense and second-degree assault, police said.

He was held in a police precinct jail cell until he posted $35,000 in bail Saturday, police said.

Detention center officials called police Thursday after a woman told them about two alleged incidents of sexual assault, police said. Deris is accused of forcing the woman to perform a sex act on him Aug. 9 and later putting his hands down her pants, police said.

Deris resigned from the county Friday, after having worked at the jail about a year and a half, according to a county spokeswoman.
